HARRIET BUTLER

Harriet is the widow of Dr. Will Butler, pastor, author, & founder of the Albuquerque Bible College. It was the experience with the Bible College that led to their ministry to the Navajo people.

After her husband's death, Harriet continued the work they had started together. Harriet works as an independent missionary ministering to the people at the Crystal Bible Church which is the first indigenous church on the reservation. Harriet was instrumental in holding the Crystal church together when they did not have a pastor. Likewise, she was working with the Hunter's point church until they no longer needed her.

The Navajo society is matriarchal and as a result the men are either left out or disinterested in the things of the church. It is Harriet's prayer that the men will begin to come forth and take the leadership God has ordained for His church.

Harriet provides a Bible study to the ladies in Window Rock every Tuesday evening. Beyond that she makes the one hour trip each Lord's Day to play the piano for the Crystal church where she provides much needed musical guidance. Harriet helps guide their singing, even doing so in the Navajo language so that it is well understood by those who sing. Furthermore, Harriet sees to it that it is performed properly. The quality she brings to the music is outstanding.
