FAQ

There is a simple answer for many of the questions that folks sometimes ask about this website, and that is: "We are a low tech operation." If that answer doesn't help, maybe some of the questions and answers below will.

  1. Why are text sermons not available on-line in DOC format?

The text sermons originate as DOC files, but they are not in a format that is suitable for display. They must be edited and reformatted. HTML format was chosen in order to provide the most attractive and readable text for online reading. They are provided in only one format in order to conserve storage space (and time and labor).

  2. Can I get text sermons in DOC format?

The sermons are not available on-line in DOC format, but you can highlight the sermon and copy it to a DOC file and save it on your computer. This is quick and easy, and does the job.

  3. Why are the audio sermons in mp3 format?

Space requirements, and the cost of storage for the audio files are of concern. Some file formats are very wasteful of storage space. The mp3 format compacts the files efficiently so that less disk space is needed for storage than for some other formats. Also, the hardware and software requirements for playing most other space-efficient formats are not as widely available as for the mp3 format.

  4. I would like to download audio sermons and record them on CD so that I can listen to them on trips, but my car CD player will not play mp3s. Can I convert the mp3 format to regular CD audio format?

Yes. Most software programs that you would use to burn the mp3 to a CD (Windows Media Player for example) will store the data as regular CD format as it burns the CD if you have selected "Audio CD" as the output format. If you want to retain the mp3 format you should choose "Data CD" as the output format.

  5. Why are there only text sermons, and no audio sermons for some Sundays?

The process that is required for getting the audio sermons recorded and placed on-line is not ideal, relatively complicated, and not nearly as reliable as the process required for getting the text sermons on-line. Sometimes it just doesn't work. We are making progress, but there are lots of ways for the process to break down.

  6. Why is it sometimes a few days before audio sermons appear on-line?

See the answer to the previous question.

  7. I have some ideas for additions or changes to make to the website. Who should I tell?

Click HERE and send an email.

  8. Can I help in the process of keeping Westminster's website up to date?

Yes, if you are a regular attender at WPC, there is a good chance that there are some ways that you can help! Click HERE and send an email.
